KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — 8News is your Back to School headquarters this 2024-25 school year. Here’s what students and families kicking off a new academic year at King William County Public Schools need to know.

The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 19.

Things to know and what to bring to school

Officials with the school district have emphasized that families should be patient during the first week of school, as daily schedules, bus routes and lunch schedules sometimes require minor changes during the first several days.

Weapons — and lookalike weapons — are not permitted on any school grounds. Vapes and e-cigarettes are also not allowed in schools.

The supply lists for Cool Spring Primary and Acquinton Elementary can be found at this link.

As there are still staffing shortages in the Spanish and French department, online instruction and provided proctors will be used.

For information about school nutrition services — including meal applications and meal pricing — visit the School Nutrition tab on the district website.

Policies, changes for students and families to know about

A cell phone policy was implemented in April 2024, which prohibits the use of cell phones — and all other personal electronic devices including headphones, earbuds, smart watches and other Bluetooth-enabled devices — during the regular school day.

When students arrive at school, and continuing through dismissal from school, cell phones and other electronic devices are required to be out of visible sight and either silenced or powered off. They should be in bookbags and out of sight during the regular school day.

Events at the start of the school year

There are several open houses taking place for each of the schools in the district on August 15.
