Former President Donald Trump was very critical of the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, a major point of discussion and criticism since it was held on Friday.

The opening ceremony featured drag queens in the place of Jesus Christ and the disciples in reenacting Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, prompting the Paris Olympics organizers to issue a statement claiming there was “never an intention” to disrespect religious groups. Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee , has since joined in on the ceremony’s critics, calling it “terrible.”

“I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace, actually,” Trump said in an interview featured on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “I thought it was a disgrace. I mean, they can do certain things, I thought it was terrible.”

The 2028 Olympic Games are set to be held in Los Angeles , making it the third time the city has hosted the historic event and the first time since 1984. Should Trump win the 2024 presidential election, he stated that the United States would not recreate The Last Supper “the way they portrayed it the other night.”

“I’m very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a disgrace,” Trump said.

Byron York , the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent, reflected how Trump addressed the opening ceremony in this interview, stating he spoke for “millions of Americans” in his criticism. He also noted how Trump sounds “extremely reasonable almost all of the time” when speaking to him privately.

Trump is arguably the biggest name among critics of the opening ceremony, with others including actress Candace Cameron Bure and fitness personality Jillian Michaels. Bure said she found the re-creation of The Last Supper to be “disgusting,” and was “so sad” by the portrayal in the ceremony.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) also posted his own criticism of the ceremony, describing it as “insulting to Christian people around the world.”
