‘Goosebumps right now’ US gymnastics star Stephen Nedoroscik admits after medal led to viral fame for ‘pommel horse guy’

STEPHEN Nedoroscik has earned himself a unique nickname after helping lead the US men’s gymnastics team to a bronze medal on Monday.

With Team USA looking to capture its first team medal for men’s gymnastics since 2008 Nedoroscik stepped up to the pommel horse.

Nedoroscik, 25, from Massachusetts , scored 14.866 on his routine giving Team USA a score of 257.793 to secure the bronze.

After the win, the men’s gymnastics team sat down with NBC’s Mike Tirico for an interview .

“We’re gonna watch this together,” Tirico told Nedoroscik as the gymnast took the host through his routine.

“Going up to pommel horse, last guy in the competition, I had a good feeling our team was in a great spot,” Nedoroscik said.

“I just knew I had to go up there and do my job,” said Nedoroscik as he watched his routine back.

The 25-year-old watched back as he stuck the landing at the end of his routine, which earned the US the team bronze medal.

“Dude goosebumps right now this is the best moment of my life,” said Nedoroscik.

However, the star gymnast may be remembered most for the nickname he earned from fans on social media .

Fans stormed to social media calling Nedoroscik the “pommel horse guy,” after Team USA’s triumph.

“New obsession is pommel horse guy sorry guys,” raved one fan.

“Pommel horse guy = enough aura for the whole team,” wrote a second.

“Very happy for pommel horse guy,” praised a third.

“Pommel horse guy is a national treasure there should be no debate,” commented a fourth.

“Pommel horse guy if you are single I am also single,” joked a fifth.

There are many routines in men’s gymnastics but the pommel horse is Nedoroscik’s specialty.

The pommel horse is a gymnastics object usually used by only male gymnasts.

It consists of a metal frame with a wooden body and a leather cover.

Most pommel horses today have a metal body covered with foam rubber and leather, with plastic handles referred to as pommels.

The medal victory is the first for Team USA men’s gymnastics in 16 years.

Asher Hong, Paul Juda, Brody Malone, Frederick Richard, and Nedoroscik will all return home with medals.

Japan earned gold in the event with a score of 259.594, and China secured silver with a score of 259.062.
