ODNR hosts special archery deer hunts in August

OHIO (WJW) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is holding special archery deer hunts at nine river areas in the state this August.

The Division of Natural Areas and Preserves will hold the deer hunts at nine locations bordering the Little Miami, Stillwater, and Big and Little Darby state scenic rivers.

To participate, hunters must attend a mandatory meeting for each hunt they would like to take part in. At the meeting, hunters will be about to buy a $5 ticket to be entered into the scenic river lands special hunt drawing, according to a press release from the ODNR .

ODNR hunt locations and drawing dates:

• The meeting and drawing for the Stillwater River hunts will be held at the Barn at Stillwater Prairie in Covington. The drawing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m.
  • Abshire-Graves in Darke County
  • Cool-Davis in Miami County
• The meeting and drawing for the Big and Little Darby Creek hunts will be held at the Plain City Youth Agriculture Building in Plain City. The drawing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22 @ 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be available starting at 5:15 p.m.
  • Terra Nova in Union County
  • Milford Center in Union County
  • Agnes Andreae and Little Darby Forrest Preserves in Madison County
• The meeting and drawing for the Little Miami River hunts will be held at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Caesar Creek Visitors Center in Waynesville. The drawing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available starting at 5:15 p.m.
  • Deerfield Gorge in Warren County
  • Caesar Creek in Warren County
  • Hall’s Creek Little Miami River Access in Warren County
  • Roxanna in Greene County

At each mandatory meeting, names will be drawn randomly. Those who are drawn will be able to choose a two-week hunt period. An orientation will be held immediately following the drawing.
