Dustin Rhodes And The Von Erichs Reflect On How Hard It Is To Fill Their Fathers’ Shoes

Two of the biggest legends in the wrestling business are The American Dream Dusty Rhodes and Kevin Von Erich . Their kids have also pursued professional wrestling.

Two of Dusty Rhodes’ kids are Dustin Rhodes and the current WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes . The sons of Kevin Von Erich are Marshall and Ross Von Erich. At the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, The Natural teamed up with The Von Erichs to defeat The Dark Order in a Six Man Tag Team Championship Eliminator match.

Following the match, the trio showed up at the post-show media scrum. During the interview, the trio shared their thoughts on the hardships they face every day trying to live up to the success of their fathers.

Marshall Von Erich mentioned that it is a lot of pressure.

“You know, I’d be lying if I said that there wasn’t pressure being a Von Erich, my brother and I hold this name with… It’s an Oath, it’s a duty. And tonight the pressure felt a little bit heavier. Because, not only we’re representing our family but the Rhodes family, this name that was built on blood, sweat, and sacrifice. Do my brother and I, this is a little deep. My brother and I we’re around the ages that my uncles left and we both feel this Oath, ot only to finish their story but to write our own. We want to thank Tony [Khan[ for making this possible. We believe that the Von Erichs name will be a household name once again and being here with Dustin… This is dreams come true. This is crazy. Really is crazy,” Marshall Vin Erich said.

Dustin Rhodes says it is impossible to fill the shoes of Dusty Rhodes

During the same scrum, Dustin Rhodes shared that it is very hard to thrive in the professional wrestling business as the children of wrestling legends.

“So, for me guys, I always wanted to be just like my dad right? And just try to fill his shoes. And then, it’s an impossible task. You can’t do it. They can’t fill their dad’s shoes. And it’s tough. Once you realize that, it’s… You are going to be better off, you have to buy your own shoes. You have to fit in those. And try to make something of yourself right? Under your name, under the Von Erichs, that is a lot of pressure. It’s tough on us as being the sons of legends. Very hard. A lot harder than people think.

“A lot of people think it’s easy. ‘We got in the business. Yay!’ Got shot to the moon? No. We worked our a**** off and it’s tough. And it took me a lot of years to realize, ‘Hey, I’m not Dusty Rhodes.’ They’re not Kevin Von Erich. I’m Dustin. Marshall, Ross, right? So, the sooner they can know that, the better they’re going to be. But tonight was unbelievable for me. Standing in the ring with them. I mean, the first time my dad… The last time they tagged was 1978, Kevin and Dusty. Which is pretty cool for me. To be in the ring with him and now to go on tomorrow, Battle of The Belts for the Sixers. Special. It’s opportunity. It’s knocking and we’re gonna capitalize on it,” Dustin Rhodes said.

The trio also defeated the Undisputed Kingdom on AEW Battle of The Belts to become the new ROH Six-Man World Tag Team Champions .
