Casey Wasserman’s fast growing sports, music, and entertainment group Wasserman has hired Steve Murray as EVP of Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy. He joins from private equity giant Providence Equity Capital, where he was a principal on their investment team.

Providence took a significant equity investment in Wasserman in 2022 and Murray has worked with the company on key transactions in recent years. He started several weeks ago and continues to be based in Boston.

“Steve’s nearly fifteen years of experience sourcing, structuring and executing highly complex and transformative transactions, paired with his deep knowledge of the sports, music and entertainment industries globally, are a perfect match for our business as we look to accelerate our pace of acquisition in this next leg of our growth,” said Wasserman CFO Elena Rochelli. She said Murray has worked closely with the company so knows it well and “will play a leading role in Wasserman’s growth strategy moving forward.”

“I’m excited to formally join Wasserman and be a part of such a talented team,” said Murray. “I am eager to contribute to our next phase of growth and pursue new M&A opportunities to expand Wasserman’s services, capabilities, and geographic presence. There is a tremendous opportunity to advance M&A and growth across the company, and I look forward to helping drive this future success.”

Murray spent 12 years at Providence, including a stint at the company’s London office, working with sports, music, and entertainment and with organizations including the National Football League, Major League Soccer, Learfield, Real Madrid, and Warner Music. His expertise includes media rights, digital marketing, commercial rights, music rights and technology.

He helped lead Providence Equity’s strategic investment in Wasserman, which completed over 20 deals since 2020, including eight since the Providence’s investment. Murray was central in two transformational acquisitions last year — of CSM Sport & Entertainment and of Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Prior to Providence, Murray worked in the mergers & acquisitions group for Citi, where he was involved in transactions totaling several billion dollars.
