Backstage News On Why Daniel Garcia Was Written Of AEW Television

Earlier this month, MJF fully embraced his heel persona by brutally attacking Daniel Garcia after he’d just wrestled Will Ospreay.  And now, while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio , it has been revealed by Bryan Alvarez that the angle was done because Garcia’s contract is set to expire, and he hasn’t decided whether to re-sign or explore his options elsewhere.

“When they did that angle, they were aware that he may not be back and so the angle was done in case he doesn’t come back and if he does come back then they’ve got a storyline feud with MJF … I don’t think it’s 100 percent that he’s coming back, I will say that, but I don’t think that he has re-signed or decided to leave yet but that was one of the reasons that he was taken out in that storyline.”

Despite having worked matches for WWE, it was AEW who signed the 25-year-old to a full-time contract after he impressed during their now-defunct YouTube show Dark. From there, he would join the Jericho Appreciation Society, which saw him become regularly featured on television, with there subsequently being a storyline about him potentially switching allegiances and joining the Blackpool Combat Club. Still, while many fans thought he was more suited to the other stable, he remained part of Jericho’s faction and won the ROH Pure Championship from Wheeler Yuta.
