General Hospital fans can rejoice that another fan-favorite is coming back to the show.
Emma Samms will return to the ABC soap in early September as her beloved character Holly Sutton . The last time Holly was seen in Port Charles is in 2023 when she and Anna (Finola Hughes) and Scott (Kin Shriner) worked together to stop Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) from releasing biological warfare to wipe out 80% of the world population. After they successfully stopped him and her attempt to romantically reconnect with Robert (Tristan Rogers) failed, Holly went back to Australia.
Emma announced the exciting news on her Instagram page as "Breaking news...!" with the Variety link with the report. Variety reported that Holly's reappearance involves another fellow fan-favorite Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) .

Fans took to her comments section to express their joy at the English actor's return. One fan wrote: "YES!!!! Best news of the week! Looking forward to seeing more Robert and Holly Scorpio! Beautiful photo!" A second fan said: "Best entertainment news I’ve heard all year!!" Another said: "First off we should all say 'thank you Emma' for being so invested in the character of Holly & in your fans!! We know your health needs to come first, we want you to be healthy & happy. When you come back to GH we know you are sacrificing for us & that is why we [heart] you so!!" A fourth fan wrote: "Looking forward to your return!!! Can't wait to see what's in store!!!"
Emma first made her appearance as Holly in 1982, she first met Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) while she was skinny-dipping in the woods as he was grieving Laura (Genie Francis). The two had a one-night stand and eventually fell in love despite Holly conning him in an oil scam. During their time together, Luke was presumed dead and afterwards Holly found out she was pregnant. Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) who's Luke's BFF decided to marry Holly so her unborn child would have a father. They fell in love and then Luke turned out to be alive.
Holly and Robert are an iconic power couple in General Hospital's history and many fans want to know if the two will reunite when the character comes back. Only time will tell on the show.
As Emma is making her debut, she is also dealing with long COVID which she got it in March 2020 and has been in her native England ever since. She has talked about her battle with the illness in a Long Covid SOS blog post in February 2024. She talked specifically about the perception of others well you have the disease but also not knowing how to explain to other what it feels to have it.

She wrote: "So please don’t tell me I look well, or, even worse, tell me that you’re glad to see that I’m feeling better. I haven’t figured out how to respond to that. Do I just say 'Thanks', or do I tell you about the chest pain I’m experiencing but haven’t mentioned? Do I explain that the tinnitus in my ears means that I’m often lip-reading what you say?"
She continued by talking about her symptoms such as dizziness and nausea. She disclosed about her "heart scarred by myocarditis" and "microvascular disease' in her lungs. She also thanked her husband for not only taking care of the household but knowing the "right thing" to say to her: "My wonderful husband, Simon.......also has the exceptional level of emotional intelligence to say the right thing; 'I know you’re feeling rubbish, but you look beautiful'. How lucky am I?"
