What is beauty? It’s challenging to express in words. Plastic surgeons may define it as a symmetrical appearance, but that’s not the only factor. No matter how perfectly proportioned someone may be on the outside, the way we treat those around us makes us truly attractive.

Dogs make this concept easier to understand, as their inner beauty radiates from within. Check out this video from July 27 to see how one French Bulldog's unique look only adds to his irresistible charm.

Although Tux (@ whatsuptux ) might have a new look, he’s just as handsome as ever. While he may be losing the pigment around his mouth, nose, and eyes, it only increases his appeal. Vitiligo is a rare condition in dogs but not as uncommon in humans. Singer Michael Jackson had this misunderstood disorder, which led to accusations of bleaching his skin. Actor Jon Hamm and fashion model Winnie Harlow also have this condition, which destroys the melanocytes that pigment the skin. Fortunately, it doesn't cause any pain. However, as someone with 25 years of experience as an aesthetician and a grandmother who had vitiligo, I understand how difficult it can be for those who have it to deal with prolonged stares from people who are unfamiliar with the disease. Thankfully, dogs don’t care what we or other animals look like outside.

    What Causes Vitiligo?

The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to result from a combination of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. Two types occur in healthy cats and dogs . According to PetMD , one is focal vitiligo, which affects only one area. The other is generalized vitiligo, which causes random and symmetrical patches of white fur across the body. While there is no current treatment for this condition in animals, it does not cause discomfort or complications.

People offered their support. Viewer @oliandwilby responded, “Aww, he’s a beautiful boy both before and after! I think this makes him extra special, and as long as he is healthy and isn’t in pain, that’s what matters.” That’s for sure! Viewer @ralf_speckmaier emphasized, “That’s nothing. It’s just a pigmentation disorder. It makes him unique and even more handsome.” That’s so true. It only makes him even more irresistible. Viewer @officialfrenchbulldogs remarked, “He’s handsome. Who wants to be like everyone else, anyway?” That’s a good point! As humans, we tattoo ourselves to make our skin look different, so we might as well embrace Mother Nature’s artwork.

Even though this Frenchie might not look like he once did, that doesn’t change a thing. He’s just as beloved and beautiful as he always was. Once again, it’s an essential lesson humans can learn from dogs.
