The rich keep getting richer over there in La La Land – or rather, Marvel Land.

Variety has revealed some of the contract details behind this weekend's shock announcements during the Marvel Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

With the Russo brothers returning to the MCU, it has been revealed that this news comes with an $80 million price tag for the directing duo to helm the upcoming Avengers projects, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars .

The deal also consists of "performance escalators", Variety reveals, which come into effect at the $750 million and $1 billion thresholds.

The Russos aren't the only ones expecting a huge payout. Variety says that Robert Downey Jr. is expecting "significantly more" than $80 million for his return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. He'll also get some "perks", which include private jet travel, dedicated security and what Variety calls a "trailer encampment".

Robert Downey Jr. blasted Marvel during his acceptance speech at the EE BAFTA Film Awards earlier this year, saying, "I played a guy named Tony in the MCU for about 12 years, and then recently, [ Christopher Nolan ] suggested I attempt an understated approach as a last-ditch effort to perhaps resurrect my dwindling credibility."

The tongue-in-cheek jab has come full circle as Downey Jr. is back doing what he loves best: getting paid.

In 2015, Robert Downey Jr. told Entertainment Weekly that the reason he's not a fan of doing smaller movies is "because they're exhausting and sometimes they suck" and that "sometimes the little movies are the ones that wind up taking the most out of you".

Who can blame him? Variety revealed in 2018 that "[Robert Downey Jr.] picked up $10 million for roughly 15 minutes of screen time in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

Variety also said that Downey Jr.'s time in the MCU so far has accumulated him between $500 million and $600 million, and his return to the franchise was contingent on the Russos.

"They were the only ones he would work with," a source told Variety.

Downey Jr. secured an Oscar this year for playing Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer . During the awards campaign trail, he said he was "surprisingly open-minded to the idea" of returning as Iron Man , so it should surprise no one that he has made his return to the big-budget blockbuster franchise.
