(WKBN) — The U.S. House of Representatives has unanimously voted to form a task force to investigate the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, and Congressmen from Ohio and Pennsylvania will be on the force.

It’ll be made up of seven Republicans and six Democrats. Pennsylvania’s 16th District Rep. Mike Kelly (R) will be the chair of the force. Ohio’s 14th District Rep. Dave Joyce (R) will also be a member.

The group will ultimately make recommendations for reform to the proper government agencies.

Joyce said he looks forward to figuring out what went wrong.

“I look forward to using time that I’ve had as a former prosecutor and investigative process to look at, gather all the facts — look at what happened, look at what should have happened and make sure that [if] there’s any flaws in the detail process — then make sure they don’t happen again,” Joyce said.

He also said he believes political violence should never happen.

“Political violence should not happen, whether Democrat, Republican, Independent — it just shouldn’t happen. And so, especially when it comes to presidential details. we’re in a precarious time where we have five living ex-presidents.”

In a statement sent to First News, Kelly thanked Speaker of the House Mike Johnson for appointing him and said it’s important to investigate what happened.

“It’s critical that we investigate, detail, and explain the security breakdowns that tragically killed one person, injured two others, and nearly claimed President Trump’s life. We must never let something like this happen again. The American people have a right to know what happened. Congress has a responsibility to find out,” Kelly stated.

Kelly also stated it’s important the group can “set politics aside and work together to restore the faith, trust, and confidence in our government for the American people.”
