DALLAS (KDAF) — With Back to School season underway, teachers and parents are preparing to return to the classroom. But, does their commitment to the education of America’s children come with an excessive financial burden?

A new study finds both teachers and parents are facing huge financial strain in the name of education.

Teachers in Texas spend an average of $1,396 on school supplies for their classroom, the most among all US states. Parents in the Lone Star State spend an average of $983 per child on back-to-school-expenses, the 8th most.

93% of teachers spend their own money on supplies for their classroom, and 77% of educators fear their classroom’s learning environment would suffer if they did not use their own money for supplies. The nationwide average for teachers is $915 per year.
