Pocket Bully Lights Up After Hearing the Word 'Pizza' and Everyone's Feeling Him

Our dogs have certain "trigger words." It might be something we've trained into them, which is the ultimate goal, but there are plenty of dogs that pick up words we use in everyday life, even if they have nothing to do with the pup.

There is no better example than this video from Monday, July 29th. Somewhere along the way, this pocket bully learned what the word "pizza" means, and he and his brother have figured out that when they hear it, they need to wait for the delivery man. He's so cute and so hungry all at once:

I know a fresh pizza hates to see Lennox and Luke coming. The caption mentions "pizza bones," and while we're not told exactly what that means, I'm going to assume it means crust. That's what I called the crust when I was little!

Lennox and Luke are besties: Lennox, the grey and white Pit Bull, was a rescue. They got Luke when he was just a tiny baby, and Lennox has been an amazing big brother ever since. As sweet as this duo is, though, they're also the hungriest guys around; feeding two bully breed dogs can't be cheap. These dogs will eat anything!

Luke has probably learned that "pizza" means crust, and he knows to wait for it. Pizza isn't the best thing for dogs to eat: it usually contains copious amounts of garlic and onion, which can cause upset tummies and is toxic in large amounts. You could try making a dog friendly pizza - it's actually easy! If you are going to feed your dog pizza, the crust is probably the safest part, so long as it's plain and not covered in garlic butter. Even though that's the best part.

How Many Words do Dogs Know?

Sometimes, your dogs will pick up on words you never even imagined. For example, my dogs know what "cheese tax" means. All I have to do is yell it from the kitchen and they come running like the IRS incarnate.

The exact number of words a dog knows varies widely from breed to breed, and even then, it varies from dog to dog. A typical dog who hasn't been bred to be crazy smart can learn about 160 words, while "smarter" breeds can learn upwards of 200 words. Their vocabularies are compared to human toddlers!

There are words that you don't even realize your dog recognizes that they might! For example, they typically know the names of their favorite treats or foods, their friends, and even their siblings. They absorb knowledge like sponges and have a real talent for sifting through and only remembering things that pertain to them. Lennox and Luke are certainly no exception!
