The Miami Dolphins just gave quarterback Tua Tagovailoa a massive contract extension to lock him down for at least the next four years beyond 2024. That extension was the most lucrative extension ever handed out, and pays Tagovailoa like one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Meanwhile, one of the best wide receivers in the league, Tyreek Hill, is sitting there with the Dolphins wanting a new contract of his own. Seeing the quarterback get a big deal before him might have him thinking about leaving town for someone willing to pay him, right? That must be the thinking behind a wild trade rumor floated out about the star wide receiver.

According to a report from Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports , Pittsburgh Steelers owner Omar Khan is convinced that he can land a superstar wide receiver for the team, and suggested three big names: San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, and Hill.

The Steelers having eyes on Aiyuk makes sense. Pittsburgh could use another pass catcher to complement growing star George Pickens. Aiyuk has made it clear that he’s unhappy with his situation in San Francisco and has requested a trade from the team. Whether or not the Steelers can pull off a deal, the interest there at least makes sense. But floating out the idea of landing Hill? Not so much.

The last time Hill was unhappy with his contract situation, it saw him ultimately get traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to Miami. The Dolphins gave up a treasure trove of NFL Draft picks to land Hill, and it would likely take a similar haul from the Steelers for Miami to even entertain trading him – if they were going to entertain the idea at all.

It’s pretty clear the attitude around the Dolphins is that they’re in their Super Bowl window. Teams that are in their window and have supreme talents like Hill don’t typically let them go. Then there’s the fact that Hill does not want to leave the Dolphins. In a recent press conference addressing his contract situation, Hill said of a conversation to his agent Drew Rosenhaus: “Do not get me traded, bro. The last time you did this, you got me traded.”

Hill wants to be in Miami. The Dolphins want to win a Super Bowl with Hill. While the Steelers may have their hearts set on Hill, there’s no reason to think there’s any mutual interest. At least not right now.
