Willie Nelson Leaves Johnny Carson In Stitches Laughing At His Answer About How He Handles Groupies On The Road

Classic.
Back in 1987, around the time of releasing his Island in the Sea album, Willie Nelson made an appearance on the Johnny Carson Show and it was a short, but awesome, interview.
They of course talked about music and things of that nature, and Carson pointed out the fact that most big rock stars have groupies following them around, likely and usually wanting more than just an autograph, if you know what I mean.
I mean, it’s no secret that artists hook up with fans out on the road, and Darius Rucker pointed out the obvious not that long ago… it’s a tale as old as time, or as long as musicians have been going on tour. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, it’s just a fact.
And one country outlaw star in particular, Mr. Nelson, was known to be quite the ladies man back in the day, and I think this pretty much proves it. Here’s what Carson asked:
“When you’re on the road, there are groupies and rock stars have groupies, I’m sure you do. You know, women who want more, I suppose, and get your autograph, how do you handle that?”
And Willie came back with an all-time amazing answer, grinning as he responded:
“I try to give it to them.”
Smoother than butter, that Willie Nelson.
Carson immediately started cracking up, almost as hard as I’ve ever seen a talk show host laughing anything, trying to get a few words out and adding:
“That’s the gentlemanly thing to do, I mean, my gosh…”
Just a great, vintage moment from Willie’s career that I had never seen before but now might be one of my favorites.

Willie Nelson Telling Dirty Jokes For His ‘Willie’s Roadhouse’ SiriusXM Channel Is The Funniest Thing You’ll Watch Today
If the whole music thing didn’t work out, Willie Nelson might’ve had a career in comedy.
In addition to staying on the road touring still at 90-years young, he keeps busy with plenty of other endeavors like his marijuana company Willie’s Reserve, and he has his own radio channel called Willie’s Roadhouse on SiriusXM, which is easily one of my favorites.
And back in 2012, Willie was being interview for the channel by radio personality Johnny Knoxville for a Town Hall-style segment, where he asked Willie if he had any good jokes he could share both on air and with their live audience, and of course, the red headed stranger delivered, joking with everyone:
“Like drunk jokes?”
He told several and just started rattling them off, but the best one came at the end and it goes like this:
“It was Christmastime, and the doorbell rang and the lady went to the door and the postman was there. And she said, ‘Come in, John, Merry Christmas.’
She led him into the back room and screwed his brains out, brought him back out, fixed him a big breakfast of ham and eggs, biscuits and gravy and then walked him to the door and handed him a dollar and said, ‘Merry Christmas.’
And the guy said, ‘What just happened, lady?’ She said, ‘I asked my husband what to give you for Christmas, he said ‘F*ck him, give him $1.’ She said, ‘The breakfast was my idea.'”
I actually laughed out loud myself, and while Willie was known for his very unique timing and phrasing in terms of his singing style, it was impeccably perfect and I think translated into many different aspects of his life.
Johnny also informed Willie and the audience that that segment had been tagged for the radio listeners like so:
“That was tagged with, ‘Breakfast was my idea,’ I don’t know if you caught that.”
Classic…
You can watch Willie tell all of the jokes in the video below, and I’d highly recommend it if you need a good laugh on this Tuesday afternoon:
