Fruit-Obsessed Toucan's Attempted Heist Almost Gets Him Locked in Fridge

Our pets, whether they have fur or feathers, can become very spoiled. They know just where to find their treats, and some can’t resist getting a taste whenever they want. Unfortunately, that sometimes puts their safety at risk.

Luckily for this Toucan, his mom paid close attention to his whereabouts. As pet parents everywhere can attest, our animal kids know how to get into trouble just like the human ones.

Check out this video from July 17 to see the precarious position this beautiful bird put himself in!

Much like our dogs get excited when we come home with shopping bags after successful hunting and gathering, birds are just as thrilled with our hauls. However, unlike our dogs, birds have wings, making it easier to get inside the refrigerator, where they could be trapped. Fortunately, it wasn’t this Mom’s first day, and she quickly noticed her Toucan, Chester (@ chester_the_toucan ), trying to get a taste of the grapes and raspberries. Maybe he’d like one of each? He showed off his listening skills when she instructed him to “Get out of there.” He jumped on her hand for transportation down to the counter. Wow! He obeys better than my dogs do sometimes. While he may have gotten his beak wet, he’s undoubtedly earned himself a fruity snack, so his efforts proved worthwhile.

    What Foods Can Toucans Eat?

According to the Veterinary Centers of America (VCA), certain fruits such as apples, blueberries, cantaloupe, cherries, coconut, grapes, mangoes, melons, peaches, plums, and strawberries are safe for animals in the Toucans and Toucanets to consume . However, it’s important to note that citrus fruits and tomatoes should be avoided as they contain citric acid, which can lead to iron storage disease if ingested. While small amounts of certain vegetables can be offered, they should not make up a large part of their diet. Additionally, foods high in salt, cooked foods, oils, and processed foods like cookies and pasta should be avoided.

People shared their thoughts on this attempted heist. One person proposed, “Perhaps someone said, ‘Put those two cans in the fridge,’ and he overheard?” Ha! It’s possible since he listens so well. Another person responded, “Staff is not to question senior management. Hand over the fruit.” It’s true. We work for our pets. Viewer @legallybrunette.x remarked, “Omg! My mom used to have a cat that liked to go in the fridge. One time, she didn’t notice, so she left her in there for a few seconds. She was paranoid about the cat being in the fridge for years.” Chester’s mom will also likley be extra cautious for a while.

Just like our favorite foods can be hard to resist, it’s the same for these colorful birds to see their most cherished fruits. Hopefully, he’ll make some noise next time instead of climbing into the refrigerator.
