The USA Women's Rugby Sevens team medaled for the first time in Olympic history, defeating Australia, 14-12, in the bronze medal game at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday (July 30).

The Americans were training 12-7 before Alex ' Spiff ' Sedrick broke away from a scrum deep in her own territory and scored on a try for five points as time expired, followed by a successful two-point conversion kick. The victory not only marked the first time that the USA Women's Rugby Sevens team medaled in Olympic play, but also the first for the U.S. since the men won gold at the 1924 Paris Games 100 years prior.

Team USA won three matches in the past two days before being defeated by New Zealand, 24-12, in the semifinal round earlier in the day.
