The Alexander Mountain fire has nearly doubled in size to 1,820 acres per an 11 a.m. report on Tuesday morning. Last night, the fire was reported to be 992 acres.

While significant growth did occur overnight, fire activity during those hours was described as a 'slow downhill creep' with no major runs by the US Forest Service.

After sparking on Monday around 11 a.m., the fire was mapped at 247 acres by 1 p.m. that afternoon. It has been growing relatively rapidly ever since compared to other fires the Front Range has seen in recent months.

According to Mike Smith, the incident commander for the blaze, the increase in acreage has been significant since yesterday. Smith also noted that about 220 personnel are working the fire on the ground with aerial assets set to be used throughout the day on Tuesday. There was a delay in utilizing aerial assets this morning as crews had to wait for smoke to clear.

The fire is currently holding in the Cedar Creek area to the west of the fire, though Smith believes that won't hold for long.

Prominent challenges are currently on the northern and western sides of the fire.

Containment is still at 0 percent, with no confirmed cause behind the fire's start.

Dangerous fire conditions are expected to be present throughout the day on Tuesday with high temperatures and low relative humidity.
