Flyweight prospect Nathan Maness did not get his Ultimate Fighting Championship contract extended despite his best effort.

Maness (16-3) fought out his contract with a unanimous decision win over Jimmy Flick last month. While “Mayhem” was expecting to get his contract extended, he did not hear anything from the UFC. Maness voiced his hopes of getting re-signed even after the exclusive period for the UFC to renew his contract had expired. Despite getting offers from other promotions, Maness was awaiting the UFC’s renewal offer or at least an explanation for the lack of one.

Maness has now allegedly been told by UFC matchmakers that he wasn’t exciting enough for the standards of the flyweight division. Having gone 5-2 in the UFC with three bonus-winning finishes, Maness was left bewildered by the accusation.

“We received word back from the UFC matchmaker last week about why we weren't re-signed. We were told the Flyweight division is comprised of exciting fighters and he doesn't view me as exciting 🥴 I suppose half your fights being finishes/bonuses isn't good enough now.”

While a fan noted that the UFC likely expected Maness to finish Flick in his last outing, “Mayhem” thought a shutout decision win would be enough.

“I really thought I was being honest with myself,” Maness wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Don't get caught any a crazy sub, win the fight. Genuinely thought that was enough. I threw 150 more strikes, landed over 100 total strikes and 90 significant strikes. That should be good enough in my irrelevant opinion.”
