CM Punk makes bold prediction for upcoming SummerSlam PLE

CM Punk is gearing up to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam .

The veteran superstar's feud with the Scottish Warrior has been bubbling for months, even with Punk shelved due to a torn right triceps. Their storyline will reach a boiling point when the two face off, with Seth Rollins as special referee.

On Tuesday's episode of ESPN's First Take, Punk claimed that the upcoming Premium Live Event could be better than WrestleMania due to the talent on the current card.

"The reason people love me, is because when I get knocked down, I get back up," Punk said. "And if you don't like that, we have the returning Rhea Ripley. We got Cody Rhodes. We got Solo Sikoa. This card is to me, honestly, possibly better than a WrestleMania."

We've rarely seen Punk performing in the ring since his return to WWE at Survivor Series in November 2023. As such, fans will be ecstatic to see one of the biggest names in wrestling facing a true rival. McIntyre's character has been unhinged in recent months, spellbound by his desire to inflict damage on Punk.

There will undoubtedly be some controversy during the contest. Rollins has made his disdain for Punk known since he returned to the company and can be counted on to have some form of impact throughout the event.

Punk's presence on the card will undoubtedly be a major draw. If his match is well-received, we will likely see the storyline between McIntyre and Rollins continue for a few more months.

However, claiming that SummerSlam could be better than WrestleMania is a stretch. Just this year, we saw Cody Rhodes finish his story while overcoming the ever-impressive Roman Reigns and Dwayne "The Final Boss" Johnson in one of the hottest matches in recent memory. WrestleMania is the flagship event for a reason.

Punk would have to do something wild to get SummerSlam onto that level.
