Simone Biles Officially Makes Team USA History After Gold Medal

As the face of any team, there is always an immense amount of pressure, but when it's being the face of an entire sport around the country that pressure is only magnified.

For Team USA's Simone Biles, she came into the 2024 Paris Olympics with a chip on her shoulder following the 2020 Tokyo Games. She was not herself at the previous Olympics due to a case of the "twisties" which are often compared to having the yips in baseball or golf. After a stellar qualifying round on Sunday, Biles and the team were able to return to the podium in the team final, and with the highest honor.

Biles along with Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera were able to not only able to get Team USA on the podium for the first time since 2016, but they were also able to clinch the gold medal.

Biles closed out the team final on the floor, and aside from posting an impressive 14.666 she also received a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. In terms of how she did in the other three events, she ended up with a 14.366 on the beam which even with a slip-up, was among the higher scores of the event. For the uneven bars, which are not considered to be her strongest event, Biles still posted a 14.400. On the vault, which is where we had seen her bust out the Biles II, the Team USA legend opted to not pull off the extremely difficult move because they didn't need it. Instead, she received a 14.9 for her Cheng, which is still a considerably difficult move.

The gold medal marks the fifth of her illustrious career.

For Biles, the medal officially marks eight total, which is the highest total for an American gymnast ever.
