Simone Biles Responds to Critics About Her Hair Amid 2024 Paris Olympics Heatwave

Simone Biles is urging viewers of the 2024 Paris Olympics to refrain from making comments about her hair.

On Tuesday, July 30, the newly eight-time Olympic medalist, Simone Biles, took to Instagram to share two Stories. The posts showed her and other Olympians enduring a 45-minute bus ride in the scorching heatwave that has enveloped Paris. In the video, Biles, aged 27, can be seen using a handheld fan in an attempt to combat the sweltering temperatures that have soared to 95 degrees in the City of Light.

“Don’t come for me about my hair,” she said in a caption of new video posted to her IG story. “IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,000 degrees.”

After her initial post, she posted a photo of herself smiling with her eyes closed, wearing a blank tank top. In the caption, she reiterated her message that it is never acceptable to make comments about someone’s hair, regardless of the heatwave.

She wrote, “gonna hold your hand when I say this,” before adding, “next time you want to comment on a Black girl’s hair, JUST DON’T.”

Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history with 37 medals from the Olympics and other competitions, has been the target of numerous unwelcome remarks about her hair over time. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, published on Wednesday, July 17, she discussed her journey towards self-acceptance and learning to embrace her hair.

“I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional,” she said. “But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore.”
