Simone Biles Made Major Mistake During Final Team USA Event

The United States' women's gymnastics team avenged a heartbreaking finish at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday, officially clinching gold in Paris behind a superb floor routine from superstar Simone Biles.

Stellar as her last event in the team final was, though, the best gymnast of all-time still wasn't quite perfect. Biles earned an excellent score of 14.66 on the floor, facing deductions for a mistake she couldn't help but acknowledge in real time.

See the sheepish look on her face in the second photo below? That's because Biles narrowly stepped out of bounds to finish a typically difficult tumbling element of her routine.

It's safe to say Biles isn't sweating her error, though. Team USA finished nearly six points ahead of second-place Italy on the podium, while Brazil finished third for bronze.

“It was super exciting, we had fun, we enjoyed our time out there and just did our gymnastics," Biles said, per Nancy Armour and Tom Schad of USA TODAY .

The 27-year-old's dominant performance in the team final is especially impressive considering she was recently at risk of missing the event altogether due to a lingering calf injury.

Biles fought through that discomfort instead, hardly looking any worse for wear while competing in all four team exercises. Owning eight total medals across three Olympic appearances, she's now the most decorated American athlete in the history of women's gymnastics—even before competing in individual events later in Paris.
