What the Old Farmer’s Almanac says Texans can expect for temperatures this fall

Texans still have about a month of sweltering summer temperatures until the fall, which doesn’t look like it will bring much heat relief to the state.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac recently released its fall temperature and rain forecast outlooks for the U.S. The over 200-year-old publication is predicting a “warmer-than-normal autumn” for much of the country this year.

So what does this mean for Texas in the fall months? Here’s what to know:

Texas fall temperature outlook

Texas is going to see above-average temperatures this fall , according to the Almanac.

The Lone Star State is predicted to have above average temperatures, along with most of the central and western parts of the country. Other states include:

What do “above average” temperatures mean for Texas?

While above normal may seem extreme, it means exactly how it sounds for a given period of time.

For example, annually, the normal high temperature in August in North Texas is 95.8 degrees. If there’s an “above normal” outlook, that could only mean a few degrees more, according to the National Weather Service .

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center three=month outlook, which is valid until October, is showing similar “above normal” temperatures for the fall.

In North Texas, the summer heat will continue this week, with triple digits in sight nearly every day.

Texas fall precipitation forecast

Texas is going to see both above and below-average rainfall totals this fall, according to the Almanac.

The Panhandle and El Paso regions are on the below average side, while the rest of Texas is predicted to have above average rainfall totals.

For the rest of the country, below-average rain is expected in the Midwest and northern part of the country.

The West and East Coasts are both expected to have between above and near average precipitation this fall, according to the Almanac.
