Medicaid reinstates coverage for thousands of New Mexico children

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico will reinstate Medicaid coverage for about 21,000 children in the state. Many of the children were disenrolled after requests to verify eligibility were left responded.

Almost 4,000 of those children are between the age of zero and six, those children will now have continuous Medicaid enrollment until the month they turn six. Children ages six to 19 will be reinstated for a minimum of 12 months.

“Anyone coming onto Medicaid during the pandemic, had continuous eligibility until the end of the public health emergency. So we know that people came onto Medicaid and then didn’t have to go through the regular renewal processes for three years. Once the health emergency ended, all Medicaid programs across the country were required to return to that regular renews process that happens on an annual basis,” Medicaid Deputy Director Heidi Capriotti said.
