Rottweiler's Big Growls While Playing with His Ball Sound Just Like a Car Engine

Rottweilers are known for their big growls. For those who are scared of them, they're usually referred to as "scary," but those of us who know what Rottweilers are really like affectionately refer to them as the "Rottie Rumbles."

One Rottweiler's rumbles were so incredible that he went viral for them. He was so obnoxious about it that people genuinely thought that he was playing with one of those self-bouncing balls. He wasn't, it was literally just him, and it was amazing:

Blake the Rottweiler is getting called out hard in the comments for "speaking in expressive bold font." I never would've thought of that, but they are so right!

Blake is a very sweet boy, and he's gone viral several times before. His mom has explained in the past that the growls you hear in videos like this one are not malicious at all: he does not want to hurt anyone, he's just happy and playing, similar to how cats purr.

It's great for his mom to see him back on his feet, too; he had surgery a few months back to repair his CCL ( Canine Cruciate Ligament ). Since the surgery, he's been taking it easy, but he's finally getting back to himself. That means playing with his bounciest balls, growling when mom tries to take them from him, and upsetting half of the internet.

Growling Isn't Always a Bad Thing

A lot of people associate dogs growling with them being scared or being ready for a fight. Sometimes, it does mean that, but that's not always the case. Dogs don't have as many complex ways to communicate as humans do. Sounds like growling can mean different things when combined with different body language.

If a dog is growling because they're mad at you or ready for a fight, you'll notice that they're very tense, very alert, and baring their teeth. If you try to pet them, they'll back away or may even snap at your hand. There are a few ways that dogs tell their playmates they're just having fun:

    1. Their growls are gentle and usually only happen when they have a toy.
    2. If they're growling and you advance toward them, they'll shake the toy.
      1. An angry dog would drop the toy and lunge at you.
    3. Many dogs will flex their ears up and down when they're ready to play, whereas an upset dog keeps them pinned down.
    4. They'll often roll over if they're not getting their message across.

Blake is just trying to have fun, and his orange ball is the best way to do it. Not only is it fun and bouncy, but it does an amazing job amplifying his rumbles. I'm almost scared!
