Veteran White House correspondent April Ryan tore into the National Association of Black Journalists announcing on Monday that they would host a Q&A with former President Donald Trump during the group’s annual convention on Wednesday.

“The event will be moderated by Rachel Scott, senior congressional correspondent for ABC News; Harris Faulkner, anchor of The Faulkner Focus and co-host of Outnumbered on FOX News; and Kadia Goba, politics reporter at Semafor,” said the NABJ in a statement.

“We look forward to our attendees hearing from former President Trump on the critical issues our members and their audiences care about most,” added NABJ President Ken Lemon. “While NABJ does not endorse political candidates as a journalism organization, we understand the serious work of our members, and welcome the opportunity for them to ask the tough questions that will provide the truthful answers Black Americans want and need to know.”

Ryan reacted on X by noting she was the “2017 NABJ JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR” and added:

The reports of attacks on Black women White House correspondents by the then president of the United States are not myth or conjecture, but fact. To have a presumed orchestrated session with the former president is an affront to what this organization stands for and a slap in the face to the Black women journalists (NABJ journalists of the year) who had to protect themselves from the wrath of this Republican presidential nominee who is promoting an authoritarian agenda that plans to destroy this nation and her democracy with his Project 2025. I object to this NABJ session with Donald Trump in Chicago.

Ryan followed that post up by sharing a clip of Trump insulting Black journalists and wrote, “Here is the reminder if you forgot!” Ryan wasn’t the only critic of the decision for the NABJ to host Trump as Karen Attiah of the Washington Post resigned as co-chair of the convention in protest.
