Simone Biles Is Turning Heads After Revealing Team USA's Savage Nickname

    By Emily Bicks,

The women's national gymnastics team proved they're the best in the world at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The collective efforts of Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Jade Carey helped Team USA win the gold medal with nearly a six-point lead over Italy, who earned silver. While 16-year-old American gymnast Hezly River sat out during the Team Finals, she also earned a gold medal.

Over the past several decades, Team USA champions always picked a nickname for themselves at the Olympics. The first women's gymnastics team to ever win gold was dubbed "The Magnificent Seven" during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The squad that won gold at the 2012 London Olympics were called the "Fierce Five." During the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles and her teammates called themselves the "Final Five."

After Team USA won gold in Paris, former Olympic champion Aly Raisman asked Biles about their nickname, and her answer immediately turned some heads. The nickname was not suitable for work, so Biles abbreviated the term to make it more family friendly.

""F .. Around. F. Out," Biles said, and the pool of reporters erupted with laughter. So if anyone asks, Team USA's nickname is F.A.A.F.O.

Biles noted that they toyed around with "Redemption Team and Hezly," since four of the five team member were on the squad that won silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But they couldn't find a way to make the "redemption" nickname work. "All the good ones are taken!" Biles concluded.

For Biles, who withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after suffering from "the twisties," a dangerous condition where she mentally lost control over her body while performing high-level skills, it's easy to understand why they wanted to use "redemption" in their nickname.

Biles' return to the international games after what she personally described as a "global meltdown" in her Netflix docuseries, is nothing short of incredible. With this team gold, Biles is now the most-decorated American Olympics gymnast in history with eight medals.

The 27-year-old can add to her collection during the Women's All-Around Final on August 1, which she is favored to win gold. Biles can nab three more medals as she also qualified to compete in the individual floor, vault, and beam finals.
