ALEX Sedrick has written her name in the Olympic history books for Team USA.

During a medal-packed day for Team USA in France, Sedrick and the women's rugby sevens team delivered arguably one of the more memorable moments of the Olympics so far.

With the US down 12-7 against Australia with just eight seconds to go in regulation time at the Stade de France, center Sedrick saw her opportunity.

Backed up by her own goalposts, the 26-year-old barged her way through two Aussies.

Sedrick then sprinted almost the entire length of the field as the clock hit zero to score a dramatic game-tieing try.

Rapturous celebrations followed for the US, while Australian stars began to cry as their bronze medal hopes slipped away.

A successful conversion by Sedrick ultimately sealed the 14-12 win, and a first-ever women's Olympic rugby medal for the US.

It didn't take long for US rugby fans to flock to X as they celebrated the momentous win.

"This is an insane feat of athleticism," one fan said.

"Against the Aussies, no less!" commented a second.

"I have absolutely no idea what's going on here, but I was glad to see that there were no late flags to ruin the nice play," joked a third, seemingly in reference to the NFL.

Many others were also reminded of the NFL, comparing Sedrick to the likes of legendary running backs Derrick Henry, Marshawn Lynch, and Barry Sanders.

"I'm not a kicker by any means, I'm not even second third, or fourth in line for that position," Sedrick said of her game-winning kick, via NPR.

"But I was the one on the field to take it, and luckily it went in."

As for teammate Ilona Maher, she spoke of her hope for what this win could do for the sport back home.

"We wanted to do this to show what rugby could be in America," she explained.

"We say in rugby a lot that we want to pass the jersey. You're passing through the jersey, it's not yours it's the next person's."
