Dak Prescott continues to toy with his future as Jerry Jones continues to toy with the Dallas Cowboys. At this point, anyone who has powered on a television in the last 30 weeks is aware of the quarterback’s contract situation and the pressure to win now. However, with a no-trade, no-franchise clause giving him the ultimate choice, many have braced for a Prescott exit. Few have nailed down where he could end up.
One NFL analyst believes he has found a potential suitor. Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of “The Carton Show,” analyst Craig Carton talked about the New York Jets as a potential landing spot next offseason.
“Could you see Dak Prescott playing for the Jets? … Aaron Rodgers might want to go to Las Vegas and play with Davante Adams next year,” Carton said.
Of course, the Jets have some similarities to the Cowboys this season. Both teams have a reliable defense, a quality No. 1 receiver, and a strong desire for their first deep playoff run in quite some time. In a way, the pressure to win a Super Bowl would be taken off Prescott’s shoulders.
New York Jets’ fanbase in need of a Dak Prescott-esque era
Despite the Jets’ recent struggles, they have been deeper into January than the Cowboys much more recently. That said, after more than a decade of missing the playoffs every single year, Prescott would give the team plenty of stability.
At face value, .500 could be the floor for the Jets with Prescott. After a decade of watching quarterbacks struggle and fail, taking a decade to soak in some empty winning might be exactly what the fan base needs. Prescott hasn’t proven he can get to a Super Bowl, but he can provide plenty of good vibes.
Of course, for Prescott to join the Jets, Aaron Rodgers would need to walk off into the sunset in one way or another. Carton predicted Rodgers to jump ship to rejoin Adams, but Rodgers also could be looking to get into politics. The former Packers quarterback was widely reported to be part of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s potential Vice President pool, but came up short.
Either way, for Dak Prescott to move in, it would take Rodgers moving out. Will the Jets find themselves a longer-term solution in spring 2025?
