TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Following an extensive search, the Tioga County Legislature has appointed a new member to its team.

On Tuesday, the Legislature announced that Jackson Bailey Jr. has been named the new County Administrator.

The County Administrator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administration of the county government including budget and finance, general operations, as well as public information responsibilities. The County Administrator also carries out the directives of the County Legislators and oversees the department operations that are not conveyed to an elected official.

Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey says the appointment was several years in the making.

“We interviewed some outstanding individuals, but one person stood out above them all. Jackson D. Bailey II has a strong financial background and years of experience working in government. He is the ultimate professional who understands government and knows that serving the public is most important,” said Sauerbrey.

Bailey has a background in financial and governmental operations in Tioga County, serving as an Accountant in the Treasurer’s office for two years and the Budget Officer in the Legislative office for the last four years. Bailey has also previously served as the appointed Clerk and Treasurer for the Village of Johnson City. He graduated from Vestal High School before attending SUNY Broome and Excelsior University.

The Legislature was assisted by Pracademic Partners during the hiring process.
