Exes Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman Narrowly Avoided an Awkward Run-in at the Olympics

The two actors are among many other A-listers who are in the French capital for this year’s Games, joining stars like Ariana Grande, Spike Lee and Nick Jonas in the stands. But with so many incredible athletes battling it out for medals in so many different sports, the exes had no problem avoiding each other.

On July 28, Cruise watched Simone Biles at her high-anticipated Olympics redemption during the women’s artistic gymnastics qualification round.

Kidman, who was married to Cruise from 1990 until 2001, managed to miss a run-in with her ex when she watched the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team Final on July 30, just two days after Cruise was in the same arena.

The Oscar-winner joined husband Keith Urban and their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith, 13, to watch Biles lead Team USA Gymnastics to gold.

Kidman also shared the arena with four-time Olympic medalist, Serena Williams, and fellow actress Natalie Portman.

Kidman and Cruise don’t make a habit out of appearing at the same events ever since their high-profile split — it was even reported last year that the Mission: Impossible star deliberately skipped the 2023 Oscars to avoid his ex-wife. However, Kidman did give a rare comment about Cruise in an interview early in July.

While discussing her and Cruise’s hit 1999 psychological drama, Eyes Wide Shut, Kidman revealed that director Stanley Kubrick pried into the couple’s relationship while they were working on the movie.

“I suppose he was mining [our marriage],” the star said to the Los Angeles Times . “There were ideas he was interested in. He’d ask a lot of questions.” Kidman said she never felt ganged up on by the director but admitted that Cruise might have had a different experience on set.

“There’s something about being a woman in that equation, too,” Kidman reflected. “He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character.”
