    St. Pete gym watches U.S. women’s gymnastics team win gold during Olympics watch party

    ST. PETE, Fla. (WFLA) — Dozens of young gymnasts in St. Pete huddled around a screen at Tampa Bay Turners to watch the Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team Final on Tuesday.

    The group erupted in cheers and applause when Team USA made it back to the top of the podium with a gold medal.

    “Such a good comeback story for everyone involved, it was just great,” Tampa Bay Turners gymnast Lenna Kuffner, 17, said.

    Tampa Bay Turners is a local gymnastics center that holds watch parties for Olympic events like this.

    “It’s really nice for them to get to see this, sit down and watch for a second, ” Tampa Bay Turners competitive gymnastics coach Alicia Hallesy said. “They can kind of relate because they understand that they’re in the gym for a lot of hours and it may push them to want to work hard.”

    The excitement is not over for some USA gymnasts as the women’s gymnastics All-Around final will kick off on Thursday at 12:15 p.m.
