JACKSON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Tensions ran high Tuesday in Luzerne County when a local animal rights group confronted a woman who they say was neglecting her animals, including several horses and cats.

The animal rights group reached out to the I-Team to look into the situation, claiming that nothing was being done to help the animals.

The nonprofit animal rights group, Whisker’s World, said they had received a tip that there were dozens of cats and as many as six horses being neglected at a property in Jackson Township and that their concerns were not being taken seriously by the owner and the situation got heated.

28/22 News was there when members of Whisker’s World and Lynda Comerosky, the owner of the animals, shouted at each other.

It all has to do with allegations of neglect of the animals being made by Whisker’s World.

They say two horses are surrounded by manure and are living in unsanitary conditions at Comerosky’s Jackson Township property.

They also say dozens of cats are on the property with no food or water in sight.

“The feces they are laying in is piled and piled. They used to come to the gate. They’re not even coming out to the gate to us,” Donna Fountain with Whisker’s World said.

“This is such neglect for these animals it’s ridiculous,” Whisker’s World member Brenda Buckler explained.

The I-Team reached out to the Luzerne County SPCA about the concerns. They sent two humane officers to check it out.

The officers say they have been at the property several times in recent months.

“What did you find? What’s the judgment?” 28/22 News I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick asked.

“The animals have good body weight. There’s no doubt about it. She’s there every day feeding the horses. There is a little bit of more manure in the one pasture. She’s going to clean it out for us tomorrow and we’ll do a recheck to make sure she did,” Luzerne County SPCA Humane Officer Vicky Van Order stated.

“So at this point, there’s no reason to remove the animals?” Mehalshick asked.

“Not, not at all,” Van Order replied.

“I had no doubt. I take good care of my animals even the cats I feed them every day,” Comerosky stated.

Comerosky insists she is not an animal abuser.

“I’ve had horses for years. I take care of my horses. I have I always will,” Comerosky added.

Comerosky will allow Whisker’s World to take dozens of cats.

The SCPA Humane Officers say they have worked with Comerosky in the past and they have had no major issues.

They will be monitoring the situation with the horses.
