HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A Heat Advisory continues until 7 p.m. Thursday for our area.

Heat advisories are in effect for heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees. Make sure you’re taking your heat precautions if you’re spending time outdoors.

All counties in North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee are included in this advisory.

With deep tropical moisture in place at the atmosphere’s surface and upper level, dew points are forecast to remain well into the 70s. Limit time out in the sun, find ways to stay cool and stay hydrated.

Why it will get increasingly hot:

Above the surface, the upper-level ridge in control of the region will begin to expand across the Deep South. As this expands, the heat dome will prevent any heat from rising trapping it at the surface.

This is forecast to continue until late week when a trough will dig into the jet stream filtering slightly “cooler” air into the region. Friday and Saturday will both bring chances for showers and storms as a front moves into the area.
