HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After a warm and humid Tuesday afternoon, the air mass is forecast to remain in place through the end of the week.

With the threat of excessive heat and humidity to continue, heat index values are forecast to be well over 100 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area that will go into effect at noon Wednesday and remain in effect until 7 pm Thursday.

All counties in North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee are included in this advisory.

With deep tropical moisture in place at the atmosphere’s surface and upper level, dew points are forecast to remain well into the 70s.

The high humidity combined with the hot air mass in place will support the potential of heat index values ranging from 100 to 109 degrees. With this dangerous heat threat being more widespread than Tuesday, the entire viewing area will be included in the heat alert.

With temperatures forecast to be this hot, it’s crucial to practice heat safety. Limit time out in the sun, find ways to stay cool and stay hydrated.

Why it will get increasingly hot:

Above the surface, the upper-level ridge in control of the region will begin to expand across the Deep South. As this expands, the heat dome will prevent any heat from rising trapping it at the surface.

This is forecast to continue until late week when a trough will dig into the jet stream filtering slightly “cooler” air into the region.
