BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – On Tuesday, a new interpretive sign was unveiled in Belmont County.

It honors not only the historic National Road, but also a family farm that’s been in business 100 years.

The Ebbert’s Farm Market sign is at mile marker 138, across from the popular family business that’s still going strong.

It began as a dairy, then became a fruit and vegetable farm and is still a farm market today.

“I have fond memories of my grandfather and Uncle John who were the original owners of the farm. And through my early life and school years I loved the farm. I loved to work the farm. And my parents gave us the opportunity to take over the business when they were ready to retire. And here we are today.”

“I’m very humbled. I’m just so impressed with the marker. Something you never ever dreamed or really deserved. I’m just thankful to the people who came before us that farmed and gave Jerry and I the opportunity to come back and take over the operation.”

“Today’s recognition is to replace a mile marker that is presently in the Smithsonian that it was picked from all the mile markers throughout the nation and the fact that it was this one in Ohio that was picked and it’s there today. So if you’re ever in Washington, DC and you go to the Smithsonian, you’ll see this particular mile marker that’s located there.”
