Tonight features widely scattered showers and storms, mainly before midnight. Some downpours could produce locally heavy rainfall. With a light wind in place, a few patchy instances of fog are possible, with low temperatures dropping into the mid 60s.

Wednesday continues our chances for storms. They’ll be widely scattered on Wednesday, especially in the morning. By the afternoon, we’ll likely see a weakening line of storms scoot in from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Storms should be below severe limits as they work their way in but again, localized heavy rainfall is possible. We’ll see high temperatures in the mid 80s. A few isolated to widely scattered showers overnight with temperatures dropping into the mid 60s.

Thursday continues the risk for a few scattered storms as our hot and humid airmass reigns supreme. With our upper level ridge nudging a little farther east out of Texas, we’ll be in a better placement for scattered showers and storms, and a strong one or two cannot be ruled out. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in a level one marginal risk for severe weather with damaging wind gusts the primary threat. We’ll see high temperatures jump up into the upper 80s. The rule of thumb Thursday is the more sunshine, the better chance for stronger storms later in the day. Again, storms could provide locally heavy rainfall.

Friday keeps the risk for scattered storms alive and well with a hot and humid airmass still in place. We’ll be watching a cold front approach the region from the west, which will cross during the weekend. Until that front crosses, our hot and humid airmass, along with our chances for storms will continue with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Heat dangers and how to avoid them

Saturday features a little more cloud cover with our cold front crossing with scattered showers a good bet. The day looks overcast, so if you have outdoor plans, bring the rain gear! We’ll see high temperatures right around 80 degrees. Overall, it’s not a great grass cutting day.

Sunday continues the risk for a few isolated to widely scattered storms, with Saturday’s cold front not far away off to our east. There will be a lot of dry time Sunday with high temperatures in the low 80s.

Monday begins a drier pattern as high pressure noses in from the west. Though it is drier, all signs point to a warmer pattern ahead as the mercury climbs back up into the mid 80s.

Tuesday continues the dry weather with partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, the summertime heat is on as an upper level ridge of high pressure reigns over the region. We’ll see high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s ahead Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a front that’ll cross. A few isolated storms Wednesday will be followed by a better chance for storms Thursday. We look a little cooler and drier on Friday with highs in the low 80s.

Seems like Kentucky is caught on this cycle of oppressive heat and storms.
