Storms cause flooding, home damage in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One woman was temporarily trapped in her Putnam County home due to Tuesday’s storm.

The tree fell on the roof of the woman’s home, trapping her and her animals inside. Neither she nor her animals were injured during the storm. When News 2 arrived to the scene, debris was scattered across the roadway.

“There was a couple of gusts of wind and then a cracking sound. Then, I thought ‘Oh, crap. I gotta move,’ and I grabbed Maggie, one of my chihuahuas, and got in the doorframe,” she told News 2. “At about that time, there was a huge crash and my living room collapsed. Had I been in that living room, it would have killed me instantly.”

The woman has lived in Putnam County for the past 19 years.

News 2 also obtained video of flooding on Cookeville’s streets, stranding some cars.

Putnam County was not the only county that saw heavy storm activity on Tuesday, though. News 2’s Storm Tracker saw heavy rain in Wilson County as well.
