The brilliant performances of Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Jade Carey earned Team USA the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While newcomer Hezly River didn't participate in the Team Finals on July 30, she still earned a medal.

Biles and Chiles were the biggest contributors toward Team USA's incredible 171.296 overall score, as they were the only two women USA Gymnastics selected to compete in all four events. Watching Chiles participate on each apparatus was bittersweet for many viewers, as the 23-year-old won't be competing in the Women's All-Around Finals.

During the qualifying round on July 28, Chiles finished with a 56.065, placing fourth overall in the entire international competition Lee finished third overall with a 56.132. Per the International Gymnastics Federation's rules, however, only two gymnasts per country with the highest scores can compete in the all-around final. Lee edged Chiles out by .067 points.

After winning gold with Team USA, reporters asked Chiles her thoughts on the FIG's rule and she provided a very blunt answer.

"The two-per-country rule thing is -- I don’t like it,” she said. However, Chiles didn't let it cloud the team's celebration.

"Having the opportunity to do all the events definitely felt good and being part of a winning gold medal team with everything we have gone through has been an amazing experience,” she added.

During the Team Final, Chiles fell off the beam early in her routine, but finished strong to earn a 12.733. She crushed on her remaining events, scoring a 14.366 on the uneven bars, a 14.400 on vault, and a 13.966 on floor exercise.

While Chiles received some flak for not immediately celebrating Lee making the all-around final, her issue was with the rules, not Lee. Frustration over the two-person per country rules has raged on for years.

Former Olympic champion Aly Raisman said of the rule during the 2016 Rio Olympics, "It’s just stupid." At the time, Gabby Douglas missed out on the all-around competition despite placing third behind Raisman and Biles.

"It’s just, it’s not fair what happened. I mean, [Jordyn Wieber] was fourth in the world [during the 2012 London Olympics] and she didn’t get to compete. It’s something I always feel bad about because it’s just not fair,” Raisman concluded.

Rachel Duke, communications coordinator for USA Gymnastics told NBC 9 News in an email on July 30, "We do not have any additional thoughts on the rule. We are proud of Jordan’s performance during qualifications."

Chiles did qualify for the individual floor final, which takes place at the Bercy Arena on August 5.
