Kathie Lee Gifford hospitalized with fractured pelvis after tripping and falling: ‘It’s my own fault’

Kathie Lee Gifford was hospitalized after suffering a traumatic fall.

Gifford, 70, revealed on Tuesday that she fractured her pelvis in two places after tripping and falling while rushing to meet one of her friends who came to pick her up from her house.

“It’s my own fault,” Gifford, who just celebrated the release of her latest book “Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior,” told People .

After recently undergoing hip replacement surgery, the former “Today” show host shared that she “weakened [her] body” prior to the accident by moving “300 books by myself” during her recent book signing in Nashville.

“It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot,” Gifford said.

“And the next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis: the front and the back. That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip. The pelvis is unbelievably painful. but anyway, here I am.”

The “humbling experience” prompted her to stay in the hospital for a week where she underwent physical therapy treatment.

“You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older,” Gifford explained . “And as much as I don’t wanna think about it, I am.”

As she continues to heal, Gifford promised to “get out to my little farm one of these days and stick my feet in my salt pool.”

“The Lord is telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them,'” she told the outlet.

Gifford said this stage of her life is “really hard” as her hip replacement surgery and recovery was “one of the most painful situations of my entire life.”

But despite the pain, she still celebrates her accomplishments and recognizes her aches as signs of a life well-lived.

“You climbed mountains, you made movies, you got on stages. You never took off your high heels, and you kept going and that’s why you’re going through what you’re going through,” said Gifford.

“[I ask myself] would I change that? No, I was doing what God put me on this earth to do. Every year of it, I was doing what He called me to do.”
