Morten Frendrup is once again coming to the attention of Liverpool fans . What’s more, the Genoa midfielder has already made it clear he would like a move to Anfield .

Frendrup was first linked with Liverpool back in January when the ECHO reported that the Reds were monitoring him. Although a move wasn’t in the works at the time, it was stated that the club would continue to keep an eye on his progress.

And with questions now emerging over Wataru Endo’s future , it could be the perfect time for Liverpool to make a move. Indeed, Tuttomercato has claimed the Reds and Aston Villa have both submitted bids worth $27m (£21m/€25m). But what do we know about the Genoa star?

Frendrup began his career back in his native Denmark with Brondby, a club Liverpool fans will know best for being home to Daniel Agger both before and after his move to Anfield. Before he became a professional with the club though, there were signs that he could be destined to join the Reds .

In a 2018 interview with Danish outlet Sjællandske Nyheder , a 16-year-old Frendrup spoke about the experience of moving to boarding school, and his dreams of becoming a professional footballer. It’s also revealed that his favorite club is Liverpool, and he dreams of moving to Anfield in the future.

"It's a dream I've always had, and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it," Frendrup said. There’s also a picture of the midfielder standing in front of a poster of Fernando Torres in his Liverpool days in the article, with the caption referring to the former striker as Frendrup’s idol.

That Torres picture would make another appearance a few years later. In a video titled ‘ The best ball-winner in Serie A ’ Frendrup is handed a selection of pictures from across his career, the first of which is the aforementioned snap of the Dane standing in front of his idol.

Since making the move to Genoa in 2022, Frendrup has built up quite a reputation for himself, although he did originally join the club as a full-back rather than a defensive midfielder.

Last season, he made 39 appearances in all competitions as Genoa finished 11th in Serie A. As per FBref , Frendrup won more tackles (72) than anyone in the league - he actually finished 22 ahead of his nearest challenger, and 23 ahead of Atalanta’s Ederson, who has also been linked with Liverpool.

He also ranks highly for interceptions, finishing last season joint-fourth with 51. Detailing his strengths in an interview with GOAL earlier this year, Frendrup said: "I guess I'm good at pressing people and retrieving the ball, but I want to develop my game to become more decisive offensively."

Frendrup certainly ticks a lot of boxes for what Liverpool would be looking for from a defensive midfielder. Having watched him for some time now, it would seem that the time is right for the Reds to strike for the 23-year-old.
