TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – As we round out the month of July, we have typical afternoon and evening storms in the forecast. The first showers develop near the coast around midday and increase in coverage during the afternoon. Later in the day, the downpours drift back toward the Gulf of Mexico.

When it’s not raining, it will be steamy today with highs in the low-mid 90s. That’s slightly above average, and when you add in the humidity, it’ll feel like 102-109.

A similar pattern and forecast are in place tomorrow as well. Highs will be back in the low-mid 90s, and there’s a 40% chance of afternoon and evening storms.

The long range forecast depends on where a tropical wave tracks. While most of the models keep the system weak, the moisture associated with it could increase our rain chances if it gets close to the state of Florida this weekend. There’s also a chance that the system stays far enough off Florida’s east coast that some drier air may get pulled in.

Forecast models continue to disagree on what will happen since the system hasn’t formed yet. It’s still in the middle of some thick Saharan dust, but that dust should thin out later in the week and allow the system to organize some.
