The new Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in New Bedford pays homage to Building #19, the popular chain of discount stores that ended its 50-year run in 2013.
Ollie’s opens this Wednesday at 9 a.m. at 500 Kings Highway in Fieldstone Marketplace. It is located in the old Shaw’s grocery store next to Dollar Tree, and will be the fourth Ollie’s in Massachusetts.
New bargains for shoppers
Like Building #19, Ollie’s uses the tagline “Good stuff cheap,” and has its own identity with bargains on housewares, food, books, bed and bath items, toys, health and beauty aids and more.
“With so many great deals, we’re thrilled to provide shoppers in New Bedford and its surrounding areas with a treasure hunt experience where they can find a huge selection of brand name merchandise at up to 70% off the fancy stores’ prices every day,” CEO John Swygert stated in a press release.
Ollie’s brings about 50 to 60 new jobs to the local community with each new store it opens, ranging from cashiers to assistant managers, according to the release.
