A LOWE’S shopper has declared they will take their business elsewhere after discovering their local store only offers self-checkout.

The customer took to social media to express their frustration at this change.

“Just found out that my @Lowes has switched to self-checkout only,” the woman wrote on X .

“To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.

“Unless I can find a local hardware store, it looks like I’ll be spending more time at either @AceHardward or @HomeDepot.”

Shoppers across the US have voiced their complaints about self-checkouts for quite some time.

They worry that this change will create a whole host of issues, including a longer checkout time.

Other shoppers have expressed similar complaints about the changes Lowe’s has implemented in some of their stores.

“I picked up a bunch of tools and went to check out. There were only self-checkout machines open,” another annoyed customer wrote .

“I asked an employee where I could pay without using self-checkout. They told me that’s not possible.

    “You’ve lost my business .”

There seems to be a consensus on social media that customers do not want self-checkout-only registers when they shop in Lowe’s stores.

“@Lowes your decision to do away with cashiers and use self-checkout is disastrous!” a shopper wrote .

“The wait time to checkout has drastically increased and now people with large loads (like lumber) block the open kiosks, so you have to wait!”

This shopper also declared that they would be taking their business elsewhere.

The U.S. Sun has contacted Lowe’s for a comment on this issue.

Another customer announced on Facebook that they would boycott the retailer because of the self-checkout-only cashiers.

“I feel that this store and any other who insist on self-checkout don’t appreciate our business enough to actually greet us and take our money ,” they wrote.

    Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, that test run has been phased out.

At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.

Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.

As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

“I regret that we will no longer be shopping at this or any other Lowe’s store,” she said.

“You lost a sale,” a further frustrated shopper wrote on X.

And Lowe’s is not the only chain that has made this switch.

Walmart and Target shoppers have proteste d against the item limit policy some stores across the US have introduced.

Walmart ‘s 15 item or less rule was brought into some stores this year and customers are not happy.

“What sense does it make to change the self-checkout lanes to 15 items or less BUT then only have 2-3 registers open?!” a customer wrote.

Similarly, Target’s announcement of its 10 items or less limit earlier this year also frustrated customers.

“Straight up never buying 10+ items from there again,” a shopper said.
