Fuel up with coffee, baked goods and more at these 5 new Palm Beach County coffee shops

It's almost August, and if there's one thing we can use to get us through the final dog days of summer, it's the fuel to survive the heat. For many of us, that morning fuel takes the form of coffee.

We'll take our caffeinated drinks hot — but preferably cold — and even better if paired with a fantastic meal, be it a breakfast break or midday snack.

While there are plenty of stellar coffee shops across the county, five new spots have recently opened and they all just so happen to have a solid food menu, to boot.

From an all-day café that serves up some seriously creative eats, to a Miami-based brand that specializes in Italian beans and pastries, here are some new ways to caffeinate and grub all at once.

    Little Lingonberry

Lingonberry Roastery & Bakery has opened a smaller, to-go location of its Palm Beach Gardens-based store in the shops at Gardens East Plaza. The new store boasts a full range of coffees, each prepared from beans that are roasted in-house, and offer unique flavors and aromas from countries like Ethiopia and Kenya to Brazil, Colombia, Panama, and Guatemala. When it comes to food, match any drink with a number of ever-changing, house-baked options, from the key lime stuffed croissant to long-time favorite breakfast sandwiches like the Vasa, a toasted croissant fitted with two eggs, a sausage patty, melted Swiss cheese, and lingonberry drizzle ($4.50-$15.95). Or try the artisanal sourdough, baked fresh daily and best when topped with a choice of fresh cream cheese, European butter, and fresh fruit jams ($5.95-$8). New, and to this location only: ice cream from Okeechobee-based Sutton Milk Creamery.

Equal parts coffee shop and all-day café, newly-opened Soul Good in Palm Beach Gardens is a one-stop shop for a perfectly-crafted cup of Joe and a satisfying meal. Inside, self-serve kiosks allow you to craft the ideal meal, starting with a selection of coffees and teas available hot or iced, prepared for enjoying in-house or to-go. Try the brown sugar espresso with oat milk for a rich, sweet, satisfying treat, or opt for a Japanese-style boba tea including the iced orange black tea flavored with a hint of thyme and topped with a cream cheese foam ($3.50-$7). For food, the all-day menu begins with breakfast items like lemon French toast or a smoked salmon bagel before moving on to heartier fare with dishes like Korean fried chicken, steak tacos, rice bowls, and salads ($10-$16). The clean, modern dining room and attentive service makes for a peaceful coffee break be it for breakfast, lunch, or an early evening meal.

SubCulture Coffee recently celebrated the long-awaited opening of its fifth Palm Beach County location in Delray Beach. Located on the northern stretch of Federal Highway in a vibrantly-muraled standalone building, the coffee shop offers a quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the downtown district. Owner Rodney Mayo designed the space to include a small stage and plenty of comfy seating, offering a community outlet for live music performances, open mic nights, poetry readings, and more. What about coffee? There's a variety of ways to caffeinate here, be it traditional drip, slow pour, or misto — a drink made using equal parts French press coffee and steamed milk. They're offered alongside the usual espresso-based options made customizable with flavored syrups and plant- or dairy-based milks ($4.50-$7). A simple food menu features fare made daily and in-house, available while it lasts. Grab-and-go items include smoothies, acai bowls, salads, and sandwiches, while a trio of avocado toasts — including a kid's rendition made with nut butter, banana, strawberries, chia seeds, and honey drizzle — are available until 5 p.m. daily ($6.50-$15). For late-night revelers, there's also beer on draft.
