Kyler Murray Could Stun Fantasy Owners With Comeback

Murray missed the first half of the 2023 season due to an ACL injury he suffered in the 2022 season. There was plenty of uncertainty on exactly when he would return or if he would even play at all in the 2023 season. This caused him to fall drastically on draft boards in both redraft and dynasty.

Murray played 8 games in the 2023 season and was very inconsistent throughout those games. He finished with 176 completions on 268 attempts (65.6 competition rate) for 1799 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He also added 44 rushing attempts for 244 yards (5.55 yards per attempt) and 3 touchdowns.

In four of those games, he finished as a top-12 quarterback, which, as someone recovering from an injury that many thought would force him to miss the entire season, are solid numbers.

Murray does not have the best weapons to help support him as his only two targets who seem like any significant threat to opposing defenses are tight end Trey McBride and unproven rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Wide receivers Zay Jones and Micheal Wilson and running backs James Conner and Trey Benson may offer some help but are not elite talents that will push Murray’s numbers too much higher.

However, there is some upside between the lack of talent and his skill set. Murray may be asked to do much more than the typical quarterback due to his ability to run the ball.

Despite the lack of weapons around him, Murray has never had the greatest supporting crew and has still produced elite numbers in past years. There have been slight rumors that Arizona could be looking to move on from him, but due to the size of his contract, Murray is almost guaranteed three more years as a starting QB but will likely extend it further than that.

For the 2024 season, Murray should be viewed as someone who can throw up elite weeks that can win your fantasy matchups. However, he will also have some games where his numbers can be viewed as disappointing.

Our consensus projections for Murray in the 2024 season would be: 403 completions, 4288 yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions through the air, and 80 carries for 418 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
