Baker Mayfield Must Repeat Fantasy Success For Reputation

In the 2023 season, Mayfield had an absolute resurgence after many thought he could be on his way out after failed stints with the Browns and Panthers. In the last season, Mayfield posted career highs in passing yards (4044 yards) and TDs (280), as well as attempts (566) and completions (364).

At times, he showed inconsistent accuracy, but his arm strength prevailed and allowed him to finish the season with the fifth-most pass attempts over 20 yards. Mayfield offers very minimal production in the running game, but his passing velocity allowed him to finish as QB 10. His number of attempts could drop some as the Bucs brought in a new Offensive Coordinator and drafted Bucky Irving, which is some much-needed running back depth.

The Bucs are going into the 2024 season with almost exactly the same arsenal for Mayfield to work with again in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Cade Otton, and Rachaad White. The Bucs also added Graham Barton and should have a healthy Tristan Wirfs coming back to strengthen the offensive line, which was Tampa's biggest issue on offense.

After the 2024 season, owners should view Mayfield as a safer but not super flashy QB2 with some upside after finishing the 2023 season with 11 games as a top-16 QB, with 5 of those games also inside the top 10. He also holds some solid dynasty value after signing a three-year deal with the Bucs, and if he proves himself again, his value might increase even higher.

Our consensus projections for Mayfield in the 2024 season would be: 398 completions, 4394 yards, 28 touchdowns, 12 interceptions through the air, and 45 carries for 129 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
