This offseason, the New England Patriots extended a three-down running back beyond their rookie contract for the first time during Robert Kraft's tenure as owner, as they gave Rhamondre Stevenson a four-year, $36 million deal with $17 million guaranteed.

Stevenson, 26, still had one year remaining on his rookie contract, so he's now tied to the team through the 2028 season.

This could give him an opportunity to make history in New England and set the franchise rushing yard record.

Earlier this week, he said that's been on his mind.

"Of course. That was actually being thought about before I signed," Stevenson said on " Up & Adams" with Kay Adams . "That was kinda one of the points I made to my agent and to coach [Jerod] Mayo. I want to be here. I want to be here, and in another breath, I want to be the all-time leading rusher here. I think I can do it. Coach Mayo thinks I can do it. It's just all about getting it done."

Before the start of the 2024 season, Stevenson has rushed for 2,265 yards in his 41 games with the team, putting him 18th all-time.

Sam Cunningham (1973-82) currently holds the franchise mark for rushing yards with 5,453.

If Stevenson plays out the length of this new extension, he'd need just 638 yards per year to accomplish the feat, and that's completely possible.
