Cockatoo Sings & Declares Himself a 'Pretty Boy' After Seeing His Image in Camera

There's a lot to love about having a bird for a pet: Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they have the most fun, individual personalities. They can learn to talk, they can become loyal friends just like any cat or dog can, and boy, can they keep you laughing. And is it just me, or does basically every bird out there have the kind of self confidence most of us humans can only dream of having? Birds always seem to know just how good looking they are, and they don't try to hide it!

I truly need the bird in this TikTok video to teach me how to have this much confidence, because he's truly leading the pack. He's pretty, and he knows it!

On TikTok, @fixchix shared this sweet footage of a white Cockatoo named Cumulus having the best reaction to seeing himself in the front-facing camera of her phone. He knows he's good looking, and judging by his volume, he thinks everyone else should know, too!

While his singing and dancing are definitely impressive (and so cute) my favorite part of the video is when he declares, "I'm a pretty boy." You know what? He's absolutely right, and he should say it.

Also, I'm not 100% sure if this is what he's actually doing, but it almost seems like while he's checking himself out in the mirror, he's also rearranging his feathers so he can look even better? Whether that's what he is truly doing or not, it does make for a really cute detail in this video.

Viewers are just as obsessed with Cumulus as he is with himself, and the proof is in the comments — one of which says, "oh my goodness, I love this bird!" Same!

Can Birds Recognize Themselves in the Mirror?

In case you haven't heard of it, the mirror test is something that researchers use to determine how self aware a certain species of animals might be.

Basically, they place a mirror near an animal and see how they respond, and use their actions to decide whether they realize that it's themselves in the mirror, or if they think it's another animal. This test has been performed with birds before, and as it turns out, it's not very common at all for birds to recognize themselves.

Domestic pigeons and magpies passed, and parrots, jackdaws, and carrion crows all failed, which means cockatoos likely wouldn't pass the mirror test, either... but if you have one at home, you're welcome to give it a shot (a cockatoo, that is).

So unfortunately, Cumulus probably wasn't calling himself a pretty bird — he was actually talking to that handsome guy in the mirror, who just so happens to also be a pretty bird. Can't blame him for handing out compliments!
